Composer

An active composer and arranger, with works performed by choirs around the world, Scott Rieker studied composition with Drs. Morten Lauridsen and Veronika Krausas, as well as others. Dr. Rieker premieres at least two compositions each year. He writes in a variety of styles, for a wide variety of ensembles, on a variety of texts—both sacred and secular. Scott is particularly attracted to the poetry of Ted Kooser, former poet-laureate of the United States, and has set Kooser’s text several times. Dr. Rieker’s setting of Antonio Machado’s poem, “Caminante no hay Camino,” has been published for SA and SATB by Santa Barbara Music Publishing.
